The customer approached us with a common issue – their ageing polycarbonate roof was no longer fit for purpose. It left the room unbearably hot in summer, freezing in winter, and excessively noisy during rainfall, making the space unusable for much of the year.
The Challenge
While the brief itself was straightforward – a full roof replacement – the site presented a significant logistical challenge. The property had extremely limited access, requiring our team to carry all materials up and down approximately 40 steps. This added both physical strain and time pressure to the project, particularly when transporting heavier components needed for the new roof system.
In these circumstances, ensuring the safety of our team while maintaining efficiency was critical. Every stage of the project had to be carefully coordinated to avoid delays or risks, especially given the repetitive movement of materials across difficult terrain.
The Solution
To overcome these challenges, we implemented a highly organised project management approach. Deliveries were carefully scheduled, and materials were transported in stages to minimise risk and fatigue. Our team worked methodically, maintaining strict safety standards throughout whilst ensuring the project stayed on track.
The design itself was completely bespoke, tailored to the existing conservatory structure and the client’s vision. We replaced the old roof with a high-performance Guardian Warm Roof system, instantly improving thermal efficiency and sound insulation. This modern roofing solution allows the conservatory to function as a true extension of the home rather than a strictly seasonal space.
To further enhance the design, we incorporated VELUX roof vents, allowing natural light to flood into the room while also improving ventilation. This way, the space feels bright and airy without compromising on insulation.
Additional structural upgrades included the installation of brick pillars, adding both strength and a more substantial, extension-like appearance. A striking 3-metre-wide bifold door was also fitted, creating a seamless connection between the conservatory and the garden.
The Results
The transformation has been nothing short of remarkable. What was once an impractical and uncomfortable conservatory is now a stylish, functional living space that can be enjoyed all year round. The Guardian Warm Roof has eliminated issues with temperature extremes and external noise, while the VELUX roof vents bring in ample natural light.
