Glazing, Roofing & Conservatory FAQs - Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers!
Conservatory FAQs
What is the difference between a conservatory and an extension?
Conservatories are mostly glass-built single-storey structures, which often feature glass or warm roofs to provide an additional downstairs living space.
Home Extensions are single or multi-storey builds designed to increase space. They are normally used to either increase the size of a room or to create space for kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, and living areas.
How long does it take to build a conservatory?
Conservatory build times differ from project to project and are subject to a number of different factors, such as the level of the ground and the weather. On average, it takes around two weeks to build a conservatory. We can provide more detail on the timeframe once a design has been agreed upon and the site has been assessed.
Can I build a conservatory on the front of my home?
You require planning permission to build a conservatory on the front wall of any property. So, this kind of build can only be carried out once permission has been granted by your local authority.
Are building regulation approvals needed?
Building Regulations are typically only needed if the conservatory exceeds 30sqm, is comprised of less than 70% translucent material and/or is open to the property (i.e., if there aren’t any doors between the house and the conservatory).

Roofing FAQs
What is a Guardian Warm Roof?
A Guardian Warm Roof is a solid, insulated roofing system designed to replace traditional glass or polycarbonate conservatory roofs, helping to create a space that feels more like a year-round extension.
Manufactured by Guardian Building Systems, this revolutionary conservatory roof improves thermal efficiency, reduces glare and noise, and allows for features such as plastered ceilings and integrated lighting for a more comfortable, modern interior.
I’ve read reports of condensation and mould with these types of roof – how is Guardian different?
The Guardian Warm Roof is a ventilated roofing system designed to promote continuous airflow. Openings within the ring and ridge beams allow air to circulate freely, enabling any trapped moisture to escape.
Unlike some untested roof conversions where condensation can build up and lead to staining, mould, and damage to internal plasterboard, this design helps protect the structure and maintain long-term performance.
Glazing FAQs
Do you use single or double glazing for the conservatory windows?
We install double-glazed windows to minimise heat loss. When combined with Warm Edge spacer technology, the internal edge temperature can be up to 65% warmer, improving overall thermal performance and helping to prevent condensation.
As well as supporting environmental sustainability, this increased efficiency can lower the need for heating or air conditioning, reducing carbon emissions while also cutting household energy costs.
Is your glazing secure?
Yes, we only use secure glazing for our conservatories in Plymouth. Our conservatory glazing is all internally beaded, so the glass cannot be removed from outside. All windows are lockable, with night vent facility. Additionally, all our doors feature 5 point -multi locking.
